Almaty Airport (ALA): frequently asked questions

Three realistic options: night bus No. 3 (runs ≈23:00–06:00, roughly every 60 minutes; pay with an Onay card, the app or your mobile operator), a Bolt or Yandex Go car if you have working mobile data (2,000–2,500 KZT plus night surcharges), or a pre-booked transfer with flight tracking. The airport's Taxi Point counter is in the domestic terminal, not international arrivals, so don't plan on reaching it at night through Terminal 2. Night landings are normal at ALA — most flights from China and Europe arrive in the small hours.

Usually 2,000–2,500 KZT to central Almaty (checked July 2026), more at night or in high demand. Both apps generally need mobile data and a registered account, and Yandex Go may want a working local number — sort out a SIM or eSIM first, or pre-book a transfer for your first ride instead.

Know the fair number before the doors open: the app price, 2,000–2,500 KZT. If a driver at the exit quotes far more than that, walk away and book in the app instead — the airport's official Taxi Point counter exists, but it's in the domestic terminal, not somewhere you'll find at international arrivals. Travellers report rides quoted at 2,000 KZT that ended with a 25,000 KZT demand — never ride on a vague verbal price.

In the city, kiosks and supermarkets sell and top them up. At the airport, do not count on a sales point being open — no published source confirms a round-the-clock Onay counter, least of all at night.

T1 handles domestic flights, T2 (opened June 2024) international ones. They stand next to each other on the same landside area, so the change is a short walk — follow the signage, and allow extra time if your connection involves collecting and re-checking luggage.

The decree that sets those 14 days (No. 148, paragraph 17) names no airport and no border crossing — it sets 14 days per entry and 42 in any 180-day period. We found no official source for the «only ALA and Astana» restriction that circulates online. If your route depends on it, confirm on gov.kz before booking.

The resort is about 36 km away. A Yandex Go or Bolt car runs around 7,000 KZT, a pre-booked transfer starts near €39, or take the cheap route: a bus into the centre, bus No. 12 to Medeu, then the cable car up. No single bus covers airport-to-resort.

Kazakh operators sell tourist SIMs in their city shops; an eSIM bought online before landing is the surest way to have working data at the kerb — which matters, because ride-hailing is the cheap alternative to the taxi offers at the exit. Do not rely on a round-the-clock SIM counter in the terminal.

Under the Rules for the Carriage of Passengers, Baggage and Cargo by Air (Order No. 540 of 30.04.2015, registered with the Ministry of Justice as No. 12115, clause 38) the carrier arranges free of charge: after more than 2 hours of waiting — two phone calls of up to five minutes or two emails, plus soft drinks; after more than 4 hours — a hot meal, and another every 6 hours by day and every 8 hours at night; after more than 8 hours by day or more than 6 hours at night — a hotel room and transport to it and back. A passenger travelling with a child under 7 is entitled to the mother-and-child room where the airport has one. If a delay caused by the carrier exceeds 5 hours, the choice is yours: the next available flight to the same destination or a full refund of the ticket. Note the limit: this applies when the flight status changed through the carrier's fault or because the aircraft arrived late — weather and airport closures do not fall under clause 38. Ask the airline, not the airport: its call centre or its representatives in the terminal.

The airport runs its own live board with departures, arrivals and flight status: alaport.com/en/flights. We deliberately do not repeat flight times here, because they change minute by minute and a stale copy would be worse than none at all. For a specific flight, check with your airline as well.

Yes. The capsule hotel is landside in Terminal 2, first floor, in the arrivals zone — so you can reach it without passing security, and it is open every day around the clock. A capsule gives you a bed, Wi-Fi and a private cabin.
